TAR bundles files but does not compress them; GZIP compresses one stream; TAR.GZ combines both.
TAR checksums protect headers and are not a cryptographic proof of file contents. Use a SHA-256 manifest when that guarantee is needed.

Creation and decompression remain constrained by browser memory; this interface limits input to 750 MB and decompressed output to 1 GB.
